The current student newspaper is titled The Cougar Chronicle. It began publication on January 31, 2012. The CSUSM Student Newspapers: The First 25 Years exhibit includes digitized copies through April 8, 2015. The new name for the CSUSM student newspaper was selected as The Pride, reflecting the cougar mascot as well as campus pride. The Pride was published over 18 years, from November 5, 1993 until December 6, 2011.

 

The newspaper was published as You Name It for only two issues, October 8, 1993 and October 22, 1993. This was an attempt to call attention to a drive to rebrand the student publication. 

 

The Pioneer is the original name of the student newspaper. It was published from September 9, 1990 to March 17, 1993

 

Plan 9 from Outer Space, an alternative student publication, was published from February 3, 1993 to November 1, 1993
