With the upcoming release of their barrel aged stout and their Brew Master’s current projects, this week’s brewery spotlight is Backstreet Brewery in Vista.
Backstreet Brewery will be releasing their Murder By Death Barrel Aged Stout on September 25th. Six barrels of this strong oatmeal stout were aged in barrels for five months, coming out at 12% ABV. Since Backstreet Brewery offers growler fills, this beer will also be available to take home.
During an interview, Brew Master Kevin Buckley discussed how Backstreet is working on becoming a true brewpub that accurately reflects their involvement in the craft beer community. At the moment, they have a great selection of local and regional craft beers to complement their own brews, such as Port Brewing Wipeout IPA, Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, Mission Brewery IPA and Hangar 24 Chocolate Porter. Kevin also mentioned that Backstreet is continually working to brew more beer, while at the same time conducting interviews for a new Brew Master.
Later this month, Kevin will be leaving Backstreet to focus on opening Latitude 33 Brewing Co., a new brewery that will be moving into Green Flash’s old facility in Vista. Latitude 33 Brewing Co. will be taking on a continental beer scene by brewing sour beers, barrel-aged IPAs and other exotic brews on Green Flash’s old 25bbl system.
