{"id":9884,"date":"2014-07-25T08:30:10","date_gmt":"2014-07-25T15:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/?p=9884"},"modified":"2014-07-18T16:04:57","modified_gmt":"2014-07-18T23:04:57","slug":"team-karl-cleans-up-pb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/2014\/07\/25\/team-karl-cleans-up-pb\/","title":{"rendered":"Team Karl Cleans Up PB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"color: #222222;\">Last weekend,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.karlstrauss.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Karl Strauss<\/a>\u00a0showed its commitment to community and environment with their fourth annual beach clean-up in partnership with\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandiego.surfrider.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Surfrider Foundation<\/a>. 144 team members\u2014from brewers to HR to sales\u2014arrived at Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach early in the morning\u00a0to begin cleaning up the beach and surrounding inland area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #222222;\">\u201cWe are a local company operating in a beach city so it\u2019s important for us to give back and do what we can to keep our oceans clean,\u201d says Matt Rattner, President, Karl Strauss Brewing Company. \u201cIt was incredible to see so many team members volunteering to help out in such a meaningful way.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9933\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9933\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/karl-%2B-surfrider.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9933\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/karl-%2B-surfrider.jpg?resize=650%2C323&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Team Karl in PB\" width=\"650\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/karl-%2B-surfrider.jpg?w=899&amp;ssl=1 899w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/karl-%2B-surfrider.jpg?resize=300%2C149&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9933\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Team Karl in PB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"color: #222222;\">Surfrider Foundation\u00a0San Diego Chapter Manager, Haley Jain Haggerstone, was onsite to brief staff and reiterate Surfrider\u2019s goal to protect and preserve the world&#8217;s oceans, waves, and beaches. \u201cI was thrilled to organize a beach cleanup for the Karl Strauss team. \u00a0Karl Strauss has been a big supporter of ours for years through the Beach to Brewery fundraiser, hosting our quarterly chapter meetings, and donating beer for our events. They collected an impressive amount of trash and helped make a big impact,\u201d says Haggerstone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #222222;\">Overall, the clean-up was a huge success with 278 pounds of trash (plus\u00a053 pounds of recyclable materials,\u00a03,755 cigarette butts,\u00a01,017 miscellaneous plastics,\u00a0633 plastic food wrappers,\u00a0330 plastic bottle caps, and\u00a0281 plastic lids and straws) taken from the coast.
