\"DSC_0035\"<\/a>We are happy to announce the first Brew Local homebrewing contest by\u00a0West Coaster.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Celebrate our vibrant cornucopia of local ingredients and DIY ethic. Simply brew a beer, cider, or mead utilizing a local ingredient. Spices, herbs, vegetables, fruits, and anything else you can dream up are all fair game.\u00a0Look to our farmers\u2019 markets, your garden or kitchen for inspiration.<\/p>\n

Entries will be judged on how well the base style is crafted and how well the local ingredient works harmoniously with it.<\/p>\n

Contest Rules:<\/span>
\n— 2 plain unmarked bottles per entry.
\n<\/span>— $5 cash must be paid when you drop off your beer(s).<\/span>
\n<\/em>— Submit as many entries as you want (but we are capping the contest at 50 entries).
\n<\/span>— You must tell us what Southern California ingredient(s) you used and where you sourced them.
\n<\/span>— Homebrews only. No commercial system-made brews may be entered.
\n—\u00a0<\/span>West Coaster<\/em>\u00a0staff and contributors are not allowed to enter this contest.
\n—\u00a0Bottle drop-off is at\u00a0The Homebrewer<\/a>\u00a0between May 4th-11th.
\n— Read and use the BJCP 2008 Guidelines<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>Categories that will be accepted in this contest:<\/span><\/p>\n

16E: Belgian Specialty
\n17F: Fruit Lambic
\n20A: Fruit Beer
\n21A: Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer
\n21B: Christmas \/ Winter Specialty Spiced Beer
\n23A: Specialty Beer
\n25B: Pyment
\n25C: Other Fruit Melomel
\n26A: Metheglin
\n25C: Open Category Mead
\n28B: Fruit Cider
\n28D: Other Specialty Cider \/ Perry<\/p>\n
