{"id":6980,"date":"2013-01-22T09:30:49","date_gmt":"2013-01-22T17:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/?p=6980"},"modified":"2013-01-22T09:30:49","modified_gmt":"2013-01-22T17:30:49","slug":"bottled-kegged-san-diegos-craft-brew-culture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/2013\/01\/22\/bottled-kegged-san-diegos-craft-brew-culture\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Bottled &#038; Kegged: San Diego&#8217;s Craft Brew Culture&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/bottle_keg_0.jpeg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6985\" alt=\"bottle_keg_0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/bottle_keg_0.jpeg?resize=200%2C172&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"200\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a>Matthew Schiff, Marketing Director at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandiegohistory.org\/beer\">San Diego History Center<\/a> in Balboa Park, was kind enough to share a walkthrough video of the upcoming beer-focused exhibit &#8220;Bottled &amp; Kegged: San Diego&#8217;s Craft Brew Culture&#8221; with us, which you can view on our Facebook page <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?v=462550853794860&amp;set=vb.126632264053389&amp;type=3&amp;theater\">here<\/a> (no need to sign up for an account).<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit, which runs from April 5, 2013 to January 20, 2014, &#8220;will educate and enlighten the public about the region&#8217;s brewing history and provide context for San Diego&#8217;s growing prowess in the craft brewing world for even the most educated beer lover,&#8221; according to an overview we received last week.<\/p>\n<p>There are several &#8220;learning outcomes&#8221; for the exhibit, which include but aren&#8217;t limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Definition of craft brewing<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of entire brewing process in general<\/li>\n<li>Understanding who the first brew pioneers were in San Diego<\/li>\n<li>Understanding the role of San Diego&#8217;s proximity to Mexico during Prohibition<\/li>\n<li>Understanding the key moments\/events that shaped San Diego&#8217;s brewing industry<\/li>\n<li>Understanding the innovations and socio-political and economic conditions that have made San Diego the craft brew capital of the United States<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More highlights include historic photography, a beer history timeline, beer-related artifacts from the San Diego History Center&#8217;s collection and local Aztec Brewing Company aficionado John Critchfield, the display of Home Brew Mart&#8217;s retired brewhouse, and QR-code links to multimedia excerpts from experts on various topics.<\/p>\n<p>Monthly &#8220;Happy Hours&#8221; will feature local breweries and food &amp; beer pairings by Stone Craft Beer Ambassador &#8220;Dr.&#8221; Bill Sysak, while film screenings of\u00a0<em>Suds County, USA\u00a0<\/em>and panel discussions with local industry members are also being planned.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit, along with the upcoming fourth-annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandiegohistory.org\/tasteofsandiego\" target=\"_blank\">Taste of San Diego Craft Brews<\/a> event on February 16 and craft beer-focused Gala Event on April 27, are big fundraisers for the History Center and its K-12 programs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Matthew Schiff, Marketing Director at the San Diego History Center in Balboa Park, was kind enough to share a walkthrough video of the upcoming beer-focused exhibit &#8220;Bottled &amp; Kegged: San Diego&#8217;s Craft Brew Culture&#8221; with us, which you can view on our Facebook page here (no need to sign up for an account).
