Paul Sangster, one of San Diego’s most decorated home brewers, is slated to open a San Marcos brewery in the summer of 2012. A move widely expected in the local brewing community, it was late last year when Sangster decided to finally take the professional plunge. In August of 2011, fellow home brewer and QUAFF member Guy Shobe approached Sangster with the idea to start a small brewery. Sensing\u00a0compatibility\u00a0with Shobe, Sangster agreed. However, in September 2011, the duo quickly decided: “Let’s get some money and go big.” Thus, the inception for Rip Current Brewing Company.<\/p>\n

After acquiring\u00a0additional investors, a 15 barrel Premier<\/a>\u00a0brewhouse was purchased in late 2011. Earlier this year, a lease was signed for a 6800 sq. ft. warehouse space located in Suites 100-104 of 1325 Grand Avenue in San Macros. Sangster reports “we’re still a ways out, but our best guess [for opening] is Summer 2012 or sooner.” A series of soft openings will preclude the grand opening.<\/p>\n

What will make Rip Current stand out? Sangster’s award winning beer recipies. Expect to see his IPA and West Coast Red\u00a0in the lineup. A pilot brew system (Sangster’s awesome home brew setup) will pump out small batches of “unusual styles we want to bring to San Diego.” Popular pilot batches will see their way to the regular lineup, Sangster reports. Rip Current will initially focus on tasting room sales with a bottling line to follow in step with demand for the beer. For the latest on Rip Current, check out their Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n
