{"id":23123,"date":"2019-11-26T08:00:18","date_gmt":"2019-11-26T16:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/?p=23123"},"modified":"2019-11-25T15:30:50","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T23:30:50","slug":"alta-brewing-closing-at-months-end","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/2019\/11\/26\/alta-brewing-closing-at-months-end\/","title":{"rendered":"Alta Brewing closing at month\u2019s end"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In the summer of 2017, <strong>John Bull <\/strong>opened the doors to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.altabrewingsd.com\">Alta Brewing<\/a><\/strong> in Barrio Logan. It was the community\u2019s second brewery, following in the footsteps of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.borderxbrewing.com\">Border X Brewing<\/a><\/strong>, and later joined by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorn.beer\">Thorn Brewing<\/a><\/strong> and the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.attitudebrewing.com\">Attitude Brewing<\/a><\/strong> brewpub. Over the past two-plus years, the business has had some ups and downs. When original head brewer <strong>Brett Stampf <\/strong>departed Alta last summer, it temporarily closed, opening again several weeks later. Today, it was confirmed that Alta will shutter again at the end of the month, but this time it will be permanent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs of <strong>November\n30<\/strong>, Alta Brewing will be closing. The business has\nbeen challenging [as we] try to recover after the original partnership failed,\u201d\nsays Bull. \u201cThere has been a lot of hard work and effort by the staff to keep\nthe business running. Unfortunately, without a fairly large influx of capital,\nthe business has little to no chance of succeeding. Continuing operations would\nonly compound that.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chris Angel <\/strong>came aboard to take Stampf\u2019s place last year, helming the company\u2019s five-barrel brewhouse. In addition to producing house beers, that system fulfilled the requirements of a contract-brewing arrangement with Kearny Mesa\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hopnonymousbrewing.com\">Hopnonymous Brewing<\/a><\/strong>. Bull will keep Angel on until December 15 to make good on that arrangement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt saddens me to have to close the doors at this time,\u201d\nsays Bull. \u201cWe have made a lot of good friends and had some wonderful times. I\nhope this location can be utilized by another brewery in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a way of saying goodbye to regulars and the beer\ncommunity at large, Alta will offer deep discounts and have Angel manning the\nbar. All pints will be $4, 32-ounce growlers will be $6 and 64-ounce growlers\nwill go for $12. The tasting room will be open from <strong>4\nto 8 p.m., today, Wednesday and Friday<\/strong>, and <strong>2\nto 6 p.m. on Saturday<\/strong>.
