{"id":23011,"date":"2019-10-30T08:57:40","date_gmt":"2019-10-30T15:57:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/?p=23011"},"modified":"2019-11-19T10:14:06","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T18:14:06","slug":"barrel-harbor-brewing-closes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/2019\/10\/30\/barrel-harbor-brewing-closes\/","title":{"rendered":"Barrel Harbor Brewing closes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In 2016, Vista-based <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barrelharborbrewing.com\">Barrel Harbor Brewing<\/a><\/strong> opened a joint-venture tasting room in Miramar with a table-top gaming enterprise called <strong>At Ease Games<\/strong>. That venture hobbled along unsuccessfully for two-and-a-half years before closing in March. Owner <strong>Tim St. Martin<\/strong> pulled out in an effort to save his overall business, but that step wasn\u2019t enough. Last night, St. Martin emailed Barrel Harbor\u2019s newsletter subscribers to inform them of his business\u2019 abrupt closure following suspension of its license by the <strong>California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control <\/strong>(ABC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter\nmany months of trying to keep things afloat, the debt load from the Miramar\ntasting room was just too much for me to bear on my own,\u201d said St. Martin. \u201cThe\nVista tasting room has not been generating enough revenue to cover its load and\nmake payments on the debt from opening and operating Miramar at a loss for 2.5\nyears.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>St.\nMartin says Barrel Harbor\u2019s closure is \u201cindefinite\u201d. Back taxes incited the <strong>California Department of Tax and Fee\nAdministration <\/strong>to request the ABC suspend Barrel Harbor\u2019s license. St.\nMartin says that if he is able to get caught up with moneys owed to the State,\nhe can reopen, but admits the chances of that are slim given the fact he is no\nlonger able to generate revenue through the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Barrel\nHarbor has historically struggled from a financial standpoint. In 2018, St. Martin\nsought investors through an online crowdfunding campaign with a goal of raising\n$100,000 to $250,000. That effort was unsuccessful. This July, he initiated\nanother crowdfunding campaign hoping to raise $50,000.
