{"id":22669,"date":"2019-08-13T15:13:40","date_gmt":"2019-08-13T22:13:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/?p=22669"},"modified":"2019-08-13T15:14:23","modified_gmt":"2019-08-13T22:14:23","slug":"22669","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/2019\/08\/13\/22669\/","title":{"rendered":"#SDBeer&#8217;s economic impact is $1.2 billion!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For the third straight year, the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sdbeer.com\/\">San Diego Brewers Guild<\/a> <\/strong>released economic findings from a report assembled by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.csusm.edu\/\">California State University, San Marcos<\/a><\/strong>. The information was disseminated at today\u2019s <strong>San Diego Craft Beer Con<\/strong> industry event. The report found that in 2018 San Diego County\u2019s 150-plus independent craft breweries produced an economic impact of $1.2 billion with industry revenue coming in at $848 million. The aforementioned impact was up 6% from 2017. That rate is 1.2% greater than national industry figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional findings of the report are as\nfollows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>No state has a larger number of operational craft breweries as California with more than 900.<\/li><li>California ranked second in the U.S. in craft-beer production with 3.4 million barrels.<\/li><li>In 2018, San Diego craft breweries produced 1.13 million barrels of beer (up 3% from 2017) representing a third of the beer produced in California.<\/li><li>At the start of 2019, San Diego County boasted 202 venues owned by independent brewing interests.<\/li><li>San Diego County craft-brewing companies provided 6,480 jobs.<\/li><li>Local independent brewers\u2019 contributions to non-profit organizations and charity campaigns totaled $5 million in 2018.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The data leading to the above conclusions was collected from multiple sources during the first quarter of 2019, including <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibisworld.com\/\">IBISWorld<\/a><\/strong>, the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.brewersassociation.org\/\">Brewers Association<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.californiacraftbeer.com\/\">California Craft Brewers Association<\/a><\/strong>. CSUSM\u2019s report does not account for the impact of breweries that do not meet the SDBG\u2019s qualifications for inclusion as an \u201cindependent brewery\u201d due to acquisition by macro-beer conglomerates, meaning data pertaining to local interests <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ballastpoint.com\/\">Ballast Point Brewing<\/a> <\/strong>(owned by <strong>Constellation Brands<\/strong>), <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saintarcherbrewery.com\/\">Saint Archer Brewery<\/a><\/strong> (owned by <strong>MillerCoors<\/strong>) and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.10barrel.com\/\">10 Barrel Brewing<\/a> <\/strong>(owned by <strong>A-B InBev<\/strong>) was not factored in. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the third straight year, the San Diego Brewers Guild released economic findings from a report assembled by California State University, San Marcos.
