As part of that three-day convention put on by the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.homebrewersassociaition.org\">American Homebrewers Association<\/a><\/strong>, winners of the country\u2019s most prestigious recreational brewing competition are announced. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s event was held in Providence, Rhode Island, where six San Diegans collected medals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><u>Gold Medals<\/u> <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Pale British Ale\u2014<strong>Patrick Leon<\/strong> with <strong>Nick Corona<\/strong>, San Diego (QUAFF)  <\/li><li>Spiced Beer\u2014<strong>Tom Lawrence<\/strong> with <strong>Zach Dixon<\/strong>, San Diego * <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><u>Bronze Medals<\/u><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Strong European Lager\u2014<strong>Derek Springer<\/strong>, San Marcos (Society of Barley Engineers)  <\/li><li>Amber &amp; Brown American Ale\u2014<strong>Derek Springer<\/strong>, San Marcos (Society of Barley Engineers)  <\/li><li>Specialty Cider &amp; Perry\u2014<strong>Chris Banker<\/strong>, Oceanside (QUAFF) <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>*\n&#8211; Spiced Beer was the second-most-entered category with 430 entries.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, local club Quality Ale and Fermentation Fraternity (<a href=\"https:\/\/quaff.org\/\">QUAFF<\/a>) won the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homebrewersassociation.org\/community\/clubs\/radegast-club-of-the-year\/\">Radegast Club of the Year Award<\/a>, which acknowledges &#8220;one club&#8217;s efforts to better their local community through the power of homebrewing and beer.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement by club vice president Doug Brown, which you can read in full <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homebrewersassociation.org\/news\/quaff-named-2019-radegast-club-of-the-year\/\">here<\/a>, he mentions the #Cheers4Sarah campaign, working with Mexican homebrewers to up their game, engaging with multiple events in the region, building a community of high-ranking BJCP judges, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>QUAFF missed out on the coveted Homebrew Club of the Year award for the first time in four years (the recipient of that honor was the <strong>Arizona Society of Homebrewers)<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s <strong>National Homebrew Competition <\/strong>featured 9,189 entries from 3,492 homebrewers in all 50 states, plus Washington, D.C. and 17 countries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Each year, recreational fermentationists from across (and beyond) the country get together at Homebrew Con to celebrate and revel in the homebrewing spirit.
