Both of his great grandfathers were brewers and starting a brewery has been his lifelong dream. That dream is on-track to be realized in early 2020 when his labor of love, <strong>WestBrew<\/strong>, debuts in Vista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Located at <strong>1061 La Mirada Court<\/strong>, WestBrew\u2019s facility\u2014like so many in brewery-dense Vista\u2014is in close proximity to a number of existing breweries. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aztecbrewery.com\">Aztec Brewery<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barrelharborbrewing.com\">Barrel Harbor Brewing<\/a><\/strong>,<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boozebros.com\">Booze Brothers Brewing<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebullitionbrew.com\">Ebullition Brew Works<\/a><\/strong> are less than a mile away, and two other beverage companies\u2014<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.twistedhornmead.com\">Twisted Horn Mead and Cider<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.2plankvineyards.com\">2 Plank Vineyards<\/a><\/strong>\u2014in the same industrial park. So, what inspired Schreer to set up shop in a community that\u2019s home to so many competitors?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\nwere inspired to move to Vista because it is a brewery-friendly city,\u201d says\nSchreer. \u201cWe purchased our building in November and moved in February. I\ncurrently own a construction company and have been a homebrewer for 10 years,\nand always thought it would be great to have a tasting room in our warehouse\nspace adjacent to my company\u2019s offices. We moved out of our old building in\nSorrento Valley after we acquired this one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\nbuilding is 4,800 square feet, and will feature a 2,000-square-foot tasting room\nand a 500-square-foot lab, with the remaining space dedicated to production.\nSchreer expects to have a whopping 20 core beers plus 10 rotating,\nmore-experimental offerings. While WestBrew will be all about West Coast\nculture, starting with the region\u2019s namesake IPAs, its portfolio will go beyond\nhoppy styles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\nplans on adding a \u201cCalifornia twist\u201d to blondes, saison, wheat ales, lagers,\ndark beers, Belgian-style ales, sours and American wild ales. They will be produced\non a 10-barrel brewhouse. For now, Schreer and assistant brewer (and industry\nnewcomer) <strong>Cesar Zamudio Garcia<\/strong> are\ndeveloping recipes on a half-barrel pilot system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur\nMO is to highlight what San Diego is known for and what it does best,\u201d says\nSchreer. \u201cBring a new twist to some Old World styles as well as offer a few\noptions not seen at any other brewery.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joshua Schreer is the product of a brewer\u2019s bloodline.
