A former <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldbeercup.org\/\">World Beer Cup<\/a> <\/strong>champion brewer and\ncurrent owner and brewmaster at Julian\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nickelbeerco.com\/\">Nickel Beer Co.<\/a><\/strong> , he has tackled\neverything from adjunct lagers to barley wines, earning much acclaim in the\nprocess. Yet, the beer he recently debuted may end up being the most\nsignificant of all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It goes by the name of Warrior\nContribution Beer and supports locals living with post-traumatic stress\ndisorder (PTSD) via the non-profit <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/innernorthstarptsdretreatcenter.org\/\">Inner North Star PTSD\nRetreat Center<\/a><\/strong>. Brewed to be palatable to a broad cross-section of\npeople, it is a 5% alcohol-by-volume blonde ale that will be available\nyear-round, with an emphasis on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legion.org\/\">American Legion<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vfw.org\/\">Veterans of Foreign Wars<\/a><\/strong> posts\nthat have draft setups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGetting the word out about the\nPTSD Retreat Center and letting people know how to donate is a huge part of the\nplan with launching this beer,\u201d says Nickel. \u201cWith the proceeds from the beer\nbeing donated to North Star, it will serve as a reliable source of income to\nprovide no-cost retreats to veterans and first responders suffering from PTSD.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to produce the amount of\nbeer necessary for the charity campaign, Nickel has entered into a brewing\nagreement with Bay Ho\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bitterbrothers.com\/\">Bitter Brothers Brewing<\/a><\/strong>. There\nwas purpose behind the partnership. Bitter Brothers owner <strong>Bill Warnke<\/strong> is a four-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. The\nbeer will be packaged in five- and 15-gallon draft kegs, with 16-ounce cans\nplanned for the end of the year. Bitter Brothers\u2019 distributor, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.karlstrauss.com\/\">Karl\nStrauss Distribution<\/a><\/strong>, will get the draft product to local accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe plan is to hold special events\nthroughout the year to help raise money and awareness, especially around\nveteran-themed holidays and, of course, National PTSD Awareness Month in June,\u201d\nsays Nickel. Assisting in the informational component of the campaign are\ncoasters featuring the Warrior Contribution logo on one side and information\nabout the Inner North Star PTSD Retreat Center on the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The beer will be on tap all month\nat Nickel\u2019s Kearny Mesa beer bar, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.obrienspub.net\/\">O\u2019Brien\u2019s Pub<\/a><\/strong>, as well as <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hamiltonstavern.com\/\">Hamilton\u2019s\nTavern<\/a><\/strong> in South Park. It will also be poured at the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandiegobeerfestival.com\/\">San Diego International Beer\nFestival<\/a><\/strong>, <strong>June 14-16 <\/strong>at the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sdfair.com\/\">San Diego\nCounty Fair<\/a><\/strong>. Last month, the beer won a bronze medal at the festival\u2019s\ncompetition component in the Golden or Blonde Beer category. Other special\nevents will take place at <strong>The Cooler <\/strong>in\nJulian on <strong>June 7<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.balboastaphouse.com\/\">Balboa\u2019s\nTap House<\/a><\/strong> in Clairemont on <strong>June\n21<\/strong>, East Village\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.melvinbrewing.com\/\">Melvin Brewing<\/a><\/strong> on <strong>June 28<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.secondchancebeer.com\/\">Second Chance Beer Co.<\/a><\/strong>\non <strong>June 29<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Inner North Star PTSD Retreat\nCenter is located at <strong>1785 CA-78, #2378<\/strong>\nin Julian.
