Local artisans have been working hard for three decades to create and maintain the county\u2019s beer Mecca reputation.\u00a0And while the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sdbeer.com\">San Diego Brewers Guild<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandiego.org\">San Diego Tourism Authority<\/a><\/strong> and a variety of media have helped to amplify #SDBeer\u2019s message, bringing in a reported 35 million people interested in our ales and lagers on an annual basis, there is no brick-and-mortar locale for visitors to get a primer for our beer scene that isn\u2019t skewed toward a singular brand. Well, not yet, anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entrepreneurs <strong>Anthony and Molly Ridenhour<\/strong>, <strong>Mike and Christine Kociela<\/strong> and <strong>Bruce Glassman<\/strong> aim to solve that by building the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/wwwmuseumofbeer.com\">Museum of Beer<\/a><\/strong> in downtown San Diego. The quintet is considering several potential locations in the East Village neighborhood. In addition to being near many hotels and lodgings, plus attractions such as the <strong>San Diego Convention Center <\/strong>and <strong>Petco Park<\/strong>, the founders say that, while the critical mass of businesses and entertainment venues is coming together, East Village still offers some of the greatest potential for unique new concepts in San Diego proper. Regardless of where they negotiate a lease, the Museum of Beer is projected to come in at more than 12,000 square feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/MuseumofBeer_Beer.jpg?resize=1024%2C576&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21996\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/MuseumofBeer_Beer.jpg?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/MuseumofBeer_Beer.jpg?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/MuseumofBeer_Beer.jpg?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSan\nDiego has done a terrific job getting the word out about what a great beer city\nwe are, but we still lack a central beer-information-and-experience hub in our\ndowntown. Museum of Beer wants to address that need. We want to be San Diego\u2019s beer\nwelcome center, if you will,\u2019\u201d says Glassman, an author and writer who has\nreported on the local brewing scene for the better part of a decade. \u201cIt\u2019s\ngoing to be that jumping-off place where everyone can come to begin their\npersonal craft beer journey. It will seek to inspire hardcore beer fans and\nalso educate those new to craft beer who have a thirst to learn more.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/MuseumofBeer_Bar.jpg.jpg?resize=1024%2C576&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21995\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/MuseumofBeer_Bar.jpg.jpg?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/MuseumofBeer_Bar.jpg.jpg?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/MuseumofBeer_Bar.jpg.jpg?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nproject team intends to service both the aforementioned factions by equipping\nthe museum with an array of high-tech, hands-on exhibits providing insight on\nbeer history, the brewing process and, of course, beer itself. Those exhibits\nwill be split among an octet of categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Science of Beer:<\/strong> A nano-sized brewing system will guide visitors through the beer-making process.<\/li><li><strong>Beer Universe:<\/strong> Info about beer styles and their appearance, aromas and flavors. <\/li><li><strong>America\u2019s Hoppiest City:<\/strong> A historic journey through local beer history explaining why San Diego is so special. It will spotlight local organizations such as standout homebrew club <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.quaff.org\">QUAFF<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Be the Brewer:<\/strong> A virtual-reality experience where guests see a brew day up close and personal.<\/li><li><strong>Getting Beer to You:<\/strong> Looking at canning, bottling, storage, proper glassware and the perfect pour. <\/li><li><strong>From the Canvas:<\/strong> Shining a light on the art gracing craft beer packaging.<\/li><li><strong>Sun, Surf &amp; Beer:<\/strong> Video and drone footage will give newbies a look at beer festivals, tasting rooms and more.<\/li><li><strong>The 91X Film Set:<\/strong> A studio will be built for <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.91x.com\">91X<\/a><\/strong> to record and broadcast its Beer for Breakfast programming.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/logo_museumofbeer.png?resize=386%2C386&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21992\" width=\"386\" height=\"386\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/logo_museumofbeer.png?w=750&amp;ssl=1 750w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/logo_museumofbeer.png?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/logo_museumofbeer.png?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/archives.csusm.edu\/westcoastersd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/logo_museumofbeer.png?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The brewing system in the Science of Beer exhibit won\u2019t just be for show. It is envisioned as a mechanism for local brewers to produce beers to tap at the museum\u2019s tasting room, where more than 65 taps of draft ales and lagers, plus bottled beers from San Diego breweries will be available for more \u201cimmersive\u201d education. Food will also be available from an on-site pizza kitchen run by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.firecrackerpizza.com\">Firecracker Pizza<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <strong>Chip Schloss<\/strong>. He\u2019s not the only founder with Missouri ties. Mike Kociela founded St. Louis\u2019 <strong>National Blues Museum<\/strong>. Before that can happen, the Museum of Beer team will seek crowdfunding via the online platform <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiegogo.com\">Indiegogo<\/a><\/strong>. That campaign will have a goal of $150,000 to supplement initial private investment secured for the $2 million project. Perks associated with the campaign will include branded merchandise, special events, the chance to brew a beer at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stonebrewing.com\">Stone Brewing World Bistro &amp; Gardens \u2013 Liberty Station<\/a><\/strong>, and more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s no secret that San Diego a destination for high-quality craft beer.
