The lists for calendar year 2018 were released today. Three San Diego County operations made it onto the craft brewing company list, with two of them making the overall brewing company list.<\/p>\n<p>Escondido-based <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stonebrewing.com\"><strong>Stone Brewing <\/strong><\/a>came in at number nine, dropping a spot from the 2017 list while retaining its status as the largest craft brewery in San Diego County. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.karlstrauss.com\"><strong>Karl Strauss Brewing<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0rose in the rankings from number 41 in 2017 to number 40. Meanwhile, San Diego\u2019s fastest-growing operation, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moderntimesbeer.com\"><strong>Modern Times Beer<\/strong><\/a>, debuted on the craft brewery list at number 45.<\/p>\n<p>Stone and Karl Strauss made it onto the overall brewery list at numbers 18 and 50, respectively. While Miramar-based <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ballastpoint.com\"><strong>Ballast Point Brewing<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is technically the largest brewing operation in the county, it was purchased by <strong>Constellation Brands<\/strong>\u00a0in 2015. As such, its volume was rolled into its parent company\u2019s total. Constellation Brands is the third-largest on the overall brewing company list, behind only <strong>Anheuser-Busch Inc.<\/strong> and <strong>MillerCoors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Falling off the list from last year was Mira Mesa-based <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenflashbrew.com\"><strong>Green Flash Brewing<\/strong><\/a>, which was at number 43 in 2017, but sold to private investment last year after closing its East Coast brewery in Virginia Beach and significantly consolidating distribution.<\/p>\n<p>The top five from the craft brewing company list are as follows: <strong>D.G. Yuengling &amp; Son Inc. <\/strong>(Pottsville, PA), <strong>Boston Beer Co. <\/strong>(Boston, MA), <strong>Sierra Nevada Brewing <\/strong>(Chico, CA), <strong>New Belgium Brewing <\/strong>(Fort Collins, CO) and <strong>Duvel Moortgat<\/strong>, which owns and operates <strong>Boulevard Brewing<\/strong>,<strong> Brewery Ommegang<\/strong> and <strong>Firestone Walker Brewing<\/strong>.
