They have been on the Northeast-bound train for some time and doing a good job with it. This week, they are expanding their hazy offerings to include Leisure Lagoon, a hazy pale ale that leans on old-school “C” hops to provide an opaque drinking experience deviating from standard “juiciness.” This beer is more green and grassy with pine resin flavors in the finish like a classic West Coast pale. At 5.5% alcohol-by-volume and lacking the creamy, coating texture of most hazy beers, it is extremely drinkable, providing an everyday, earthy, evergreen porch-pounder for fans of traditional pales and IPAs. Still need a juice fix? Breathe deep. Leisure lagoon features prominent notes of peach, key lime and ripe mango that are positively delightful.

From the Brewer: “Leisure Lagoon hazy pale ale is the newest addition to our year-round line-up of 16-ounce beers. The idea for Leisure Lagoon has been brewing for a while. We knew we wanted to add another hazy to our portfolio, but we wanted it to be very different from North Island IPA. The first thing we decided on was a lower alcohol by volume—we wanted this beer to be really sessionable. Next was the hop profile. Unlike most hazies, we wanted to go a little old school and very classic West Coast with the hop profile. We use a blend of Columbus, Cascade and Centennial, which gives the beer a bright citrus and grapefruit aroma with a touch of earthy dankness. The London III yeast adds a nice mouthfeel and accentuates the fruitiness of the hops for a fun twist on what you’d expect from most hazies. Leisure Lagoon is a West Coast spin on an East Coast style, and we think people will really enjoy it.”—Shawn Steele, Director of Brewery Operations, Coronado Brewing

From the Beer Writer: Hazy, hoppy ales are the single most popular category for craft beer drinkers right now.
