Up in San Marcos, Double Peak Brewing has been opened in “sneak-preview” mode on Saturdays and Sundays since the weekend before Christmas. They’ve tinkered with their hours nearly every weekend, making it essential to follow their social-media posts to ensure they will be ready to receive. Beers tapped thus far include an amber ale, brown ale, red ale, two IPAs (one clear, one hazy) and Double Peak’s version of the Resilience IPA charity beer brewed to raise money for Sierra Nevada Brewing’s Camp Fire Relief Fund. Given the promise of an extensive menu of innovative sandwiches and salads and the venue’s more-than-ample restaurant seating, the space felt odd without a dining option. But the kitchen is operative and Attitude is now serving its full menu. The small, North County inland community I once called home will soon be home to a venue owned by a local-beer producer when East Village-based Knotty Barrel opens a second location at 13211 Black Mountain Road. The 4,000-square-foot space is scheduled to debut sometime this spring. While it’s not a brewing facility, it will allow Rancho Peñasquitos residents a taste of local, independent beer from the hospitality company’s brewing arm, Knotty Brewing.
