The premier homebrewing event in the region, <\/span>The San Diego Homebrew Festival and Competition<\/span><\/a>,<\/span> will take place on March 10<\/span>th<\/span> in the lot behind the historic North Park Theatre building (the future site of the North Park \u201cMini-park\u201d), from noon until 4:00 PM! This will mark the third annual Homebrew Fest, and a significant expansion from its predecessors, featuring more homebrewers, more licensed brewers, and more food vendors. For a measly $35, guests receive unlimited tastes of more than forty different brews of every imaginable style. <\/span><\/p>\n

This year, 35 homebrewers will compete for bragging rights as San Diego\u2019s best backyard brewmeister. In addition, ten local licensed breweries will contribute kegs, and three food vendors will be on hand to feed the adventurous beerheads. Among the licensed brewers, we are proud to include Savagewood Brewing Company, owned by Darrel Brown, who launched the brand after winning last year\u2019s Homebrew Fest. Brews will be judged by trained experts, and the winners will be announced at the end of the event.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to beer and food, guests can also participate in games, a silent auction, a chance to vote for the People\u2019s Choice award, and of course, plenty of opportunities to nerd out with local beer experts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not only will you enjoy a truly unique experience that stands out from the ubiquitous, generic craft brew fests in San Diego; you will do so knowing that all the proceeds go toward supporting North Park\u2019s neighborhood public school, Jefferson Elementary. \u00a0<\/span>Friends of Jefferson<\/span><\/a>, the beneficiary of this fundraiser, is a non-profit foundation that supports education and enrichment programs at Jefferson that are not covered by the School District budget, including weekly gardening classes, art classes, after-school clubs, and more. Jefferson Elementary is a SDUSD public school in which more than 70% of students are eligible for free meals; and given the District\u2019s ongoing budget woes, community support for public schools like Jefferson is more crucial than ever. \u00a0Community partners including Homebrew Fest sponsors <\/span>Waypoint Public<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>The Homebrewer<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Community Realty<\/span><\/a> Co<\/span>, <\/span>North Park Lions Club<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Damian Luna Designs<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>KFMB<\/span><\/a> and The CW, and <\/span>Observatory North Park<\/span><\/a> have been invaluable in the efforts to expand opportunities for Jefferson students.<\/span><\/p>\n
