Mike Hess Brewing asks for public support in Imperial Beach permit extension push

June 16, 2020 By Ryan Lamb

Tomorrow, the Imperial Beach City Council will vote on whether to extend the building permit for Mike Hess Brewing’s Imperial Beach project past August. According to company co-founder Mike Hess, the City of San Diego extended all active permits for 180 days on March 19, while Imperial Beach did not. Supporters of a permit extension are asked to sign this petition ASAP.

“Our new schedule has us building starting the Tuesday after Labor Day (and finishing in October), so that we can continue to operate this summer, keep the 25+ local IB peeps employed all summer and try to recover from the devastating effects of the COVID shutdown which has crippled us,” says Hess. “For a while, it was unclear how long we’d be shut down, whether we’d survive as a business or be able to ever do what we loved to do again – make great beer, and provide a great venue for people to gather ’round.”

Update: Extension granted.
