Escondido Brewing closes amid pandemic

May 2, 2020 By Ryan Lamb

Escondido's Ketchen Smith and Evan Smith

Today is the last day in business for Escondido Brewing, opened in 2017 and well known for their Hopcondido IPA.

If you can get there before 5 p.m., growler fills are $15 (but you must bring your own container) and merchandise is 20% off.

Co-founder Ketchen Smith provided West Coaster with this statement:

“It was not an easy decision, but a bunch of things happened all at once and the major culprit was our to-go restrictions from COVID.  EBC was designed for on-site sales with little distribution.  Running out of growlers and cans very quickly became an issue.  I am trying to be positive and look at this as a opportunity for growth.  I worked very hard to make my passion job a reality and it resulted in amazing friendships, especially in the community and the brewing industry.  Those connections will not go away, nor my experience as an owner and brewer.  I will brew again and hope to share tasty brews with San Diego in the future.”
