Beverage Briefs: Mike Hess & OAK / Julian’s 150th / Preston’s Ginger Beer

March 5, 2020 By Ryan Lamb

In 2019, patrons of Mike Hess Brewing helped raised more than $100,000 to fund pediatric cancer research. On Saturday, March 7th, the company will host its first major fundraiser of the year, for Camp Oncology And Kids (OAK), from 5-8 p.m at the North Park brewery. According to a recent post, “OAK offers a free week-long camp experience where kids can shed the label of ‘cancer patient’ and enjoy a fun-filled week to remember forever surrounded by lifelong friends who understand where they’re coming from.” The evening’s food truck partner (TBD) also plans to donate a percentage of sales.

The two Julian beer makers, Julian Beer Co. and Nickel Beer Co., teamed up to craft a kölsch in celebration of the mountain town’s 150th anniversary this year. Stay tuned to the companies’ social media pages for release info, or visit the official website, and save the date for the Taste of Julian on Saturday, May 16.

The tap room for Preston’s Ginger Beer, located in the Miralani Makers District, has new hours: Fridays 6-9 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 3-9 p.m. Owner Harry Preston crafts the original variety using an old family recipe, and also offers infusions such as blood orange, passion fruit, and fig and honey.
