Papa Marce’s Cerveceria to close

February 25 will be last day of operation for Carlsbad Brewery Igniter tenant

February 21, 2020 By Brandon Hernández

This morning, Papa Marce’s Cerveceria owner Mark Amador announced on the company’s social media that the company will be closing, citing “underfunding” and the loss of its lease as reasons for the abrupt shuttering. The business will be open through Tuesday, February 25.

“We want to thank you all for the support and love you’ve shown in attempting to make this dream come true,” wrote Amador. “We appreciate and love you all and hope to see you over the weekend to raise a glass to this wonderful adventure we have had and to the many adventures ahead of us in the future.”

Papa Marce’s opened as a collaborative effort between Amador and former head brewer Grant Heuer. The two worked together at Vista’s Indian Joe Brewing, with Amador serving in a sales capacity. The two developed the idea for Papa Marce’s and left Indian Joe en masse to open the new business as lease-to-brew Brewery Igniter suite in Carlsbad formerly occupied by Wiseguy Brewing and next door to Rouleur Brewing.

Papa Marce’s opened its doors in August 2018. Shortly after, Heuer departed the business to take on a new opportunity out of state. Unable to find a head brewer to replace Heuer, Amador took on beer manufacturing while attempting unsuccessfully to secure additional funding to keep the business going.
