Beer Briefs: The Sanctuary | Pizza Port | Epic Wings

An opening date, future brewpub site and planned brewery stall out

October 24, 2019 By Brandon Hernández

Last month, we shared that San Marcos-based brewing company, The Lost Abbey, was working on a satellite tasting room in its home municipality’s San Elijo community. Now, there’s an opening date for the 2,200-square-foot, indoor-outdoor space: 11 a.m. on Friday, November 1. That’s right—the first day of San Diego Beer Week. Located at 1215 San Elijo Road, the spinoff venue will go by the name “The Sanctuary”, following the name of its sister satellite tasting room in Cardiff by the Sea, “The Confessional”. Jumping into the new space with both cycling-shoe-clad feet, The Lost Abbey will hold its first-ever cycling event with a route beginning and ending at The Sanctuary, on Saturday, November 2.

Though still early in the project cycle, iconic Carlsbad-based brewpub chain Pizza Port (and The Lost Abbey cousin operation) is working toward opening its sixth location. That brewery-equipped producer of beer and ‘za will be sited in the country’s southwesternmost municipality, Imperial Beach, and join Coronado Brewing and Mike Hess Brewing, both of which currently operate non-brewing facilities in IB.

Last October, we reported that popular local restaurant chain Epic Wings (AKA: Wings N’ Things) was working toward opening its own beer-brewing facility at an upcoming store at 1054 West Valley Parkway in Escondido. While that plan has not been scrapped, it is officially on the backburner, or rear fryer basket as the case may be.
