Beer of the Week: Noise Complaint

My Yard Live’s house IPA a hop-laced ode to the good ol’ days

August 23, 2019 By Brandon Hernández

Noise Complaint IPA from My Yard Live in San Marcos

From the Beer Writer: A brewpub humming with the sounds of video games, air-hockey buzzers and happy kids enjoying all that plus an outdoor play area built just for them. Sounds like the perfect backdrop for a beer called Noise Complaint, but when it comes to the IPA newly-minted San Marcos brewpub My Yard Live bestowed that moniker on, fans of West Coast IPAs will have zero complaints. While he’s new to his current digs, head brewer Shaggy Blaney has been crafting stellar IPAs for years, first for Port Brewing followed by Mason Ale Works. His accumulated expertise shines through in this 7% alcohol-by-volume flagship. Each sip starts with a burst of tropical- and citrus-fruit character before giving way to just enough bitterness to wipe taste buds’ slate clean. Knowing it will always be on should keep hop-heads (particularly those with kids or a penchant for interactive games) coming back to this new arrival.

From the Brewer: “In a town where West Coast IPAs were pioneered and perfected, it only seems right to have a traditional West Coast IPA as our house IPA. Noise Complaint utilizes traditional “C hops” backed with Mosaic to offer a balanced, piney bitterness with a hefty helping of citrus notes. I wanted to pay homage to the style that really defined San Diego’s original beer scene and, with a nice, piney character, I feel this beer is a pretty good example of the good ol’ days when IPA’s were bright, dry and bitter; before murk monsters and adjunct A.D.D took over the beer scene.”—Ben “Shaggy” Blaney, Head Brewer, My Yard Live
