Beer of the Week: City of Dis

Circle Nine Brewing’s flagship IPA the base of two years in the beer biz

August 9, 2019 By Brandon Hernández

City of Dis IPA from Circle Nine Brewing in Kearny Mesa

From the Beer Writer: Of the four tasting-room-equipped breweries in Kearny Mesa, Circle Nine Brewing is the only one not visible from Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, but those in search of a West Coast IPA with a malty twist will find a trip a bit off the beaten path well worth it. Munich malt is added to the grain bill for the company’s City of Dis IPA. Traditionally utilized for dark lagers, it lends amber color and a slightly sweet, bready character that combines with orange and mango notes from Citra and Mosaic hops to create a robust IPA drinking experience, even at its modest 6.7% alcohol-by-volume figure.

From the Brewer: “The City of Dis (AKA, C.O.D.) is Circle Nine’s flag ship beer. It’s a classic IPA bursting with generous amounts of Citra and Mosaic hops, which give way to tones of tropical, dank and citrus goodness.  The hops are balanced nicely with a Munich-malt backbone and the beer finishes clean, smooth and not too bitter. Join us on August 17 for our second anniversary party from 3 to 7 p.m.  There will be plenty of COD (and a lot of other good beers) on hand. ” —Darren Baker, Head Brewer, Circle Nine Brewing
