Over its 12 years in business, much has stayed the same for New English Brewing. The Sorrento Valley business has its roots in tradition, having opened with a line of to-style Old World ales inspired by those in founder Simon Lacey’s native U.K. That portfolio has since expanded to include more SoCal-tuned specialties such as West Coast and Northeast-style IPAs and even a fruited blonde ale. Now, those and other New English creations will be available in cans.
Over the weekend, New English debuted the first of its six-pack offerings: Whole Lotta Hazy IPA, Por Favor Pils, and Blueberry Blonde. They are available both in the company’s tasting room and where its beers are distributed. Other New English offerings bound for the company’s new 12-ounce cans include Pure and Simple IPA, Brewer’s Special Brown, and the award-winning chocolate-and-coffee-infused Zumbar Imperial Stout.
“Today marks the start of a new era for New English, allowing us to package our most popular beers in a format our fans have been asking for,” says Lacey. The cans are adorned with a colorful X displaying each beer’s name against a white backdrop. Lacey says the X signifies “the success that comes at the intersection of a desire to learn, adapt, be bold and fearless yet remain inclusive, listen to many viewpoints while having a clear vision, and focus on a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.”
The cans also feature an updated logo, the first adjustment to the brand’s centerpiece since it opened in 2007. It is representative of an overall rebrand meant to move toward a clean, modern place aesthetically. That refresh will permeate New English’s tasting room, where yet-to-be-released beers figure to debut within two-to-three weeks.
