Creative Creature pulls out of Santee deal

El Cajon brewing interest will not occupy former Council Brewing space

June 29, 2019 By Brandon Hernández

Earlier this month, Creative Creature Brewing announced it would be taking over the Santee brewery and tasting room previously occupied by Council Brewing. Located at 9962 Prospect Street, Suite E, that space housed Finest Made Ales and Twisted Manzanita Ales prior to Council, which shuttered in December of last year. Earlier this week, that deal fell apart when negotiations between the El Cajon-based Creative Creature and the space’s landlord reached an impasse.

“We love Santee, but the owner of the Prospect Avenue location didn’t want to be burned by another brewery, and we didn’t have the means to remove and store the equipment on top of the purchase price at this time,” says co-founder Derek Carnation. “We will continue cranking out batches at our current spot to fill the East Village tasting room.”

The East Village venue Carnation refers to is a space Creative Creature shares with Red Hat Coffee at 440 16th Street, where beer isn’t being poured just yet (though coffee is).
