23rd SDCCU North Park Festival of Arts is May 11th

April 30, 2019 By Mike Shess

The 23rd SDCCU Festival of Arts in North Park features over 40 acts from San Diego’s best talent, including Folk, County, Rock, Latin, Hip-Hop, Blues, Electronic and World Music on May 11th, 2019. But this event offers more than just music.  San Diego’s hippest neighborhood, North Park, is filled with some of the region’s most well-known street artists creating urban street art that can be purchased by the onlookers. This event seeks to elevate the average street fair art vibe but still offers affordable pieces for the novice art collector. The Gallery in The Street exhibit features emerging artist who will soon be seen in some of the areas most well respected galleries. This year it will feature an LGBT+ artist showcase curated by local up and coming artists.

Most festivals have beer gardens but the Craft Beer block at the SDCCU Festival of Arts is unique because it of its friendly atmosphere, carefully curated local brews and food that is a step above usual festival fare.  The Craft Beer Block features the Lafayette Stage with local bands playing from 11am to 10 pm. The talent is some of the best that San Diego has to offer. The Craft Beer Block is like a combination of being at the best brewery you can imagine and hanging out at a party that you don’t want to leave. It’s a place where everyone leaves with new friends. Purchase tickets to sample 13 four ounce samples of quality craft beer or come on in and buy a full 16 ounce pour to enjoy.

Because the North Park community is a place where families like to gather, the SDCCU Festival of Arts is full of kid-friendly activities including a hands-on pottery wheel, face painting and make your own cotton candy.  In addition to the Make & Create, there is a kids activity area with a bungee jump, giant slide and rock climbing area.

While the kids enjoy their activity, parents can head across the street to the 619 Spirits Cocktail Garden where locally distilled spirts are added to refreshing craft cocktails. The Herman Street Stage will be in view and spectators can enjoy unique dance performers by day or listen to local Djs take over the stage by night. The 619 Cocktail Garden is the perfect place to relax and take it all in or if you are brave grab the mic and enjoy some karaoke provided by Red Wing bar and Grill.

The SDCCU Festival of Arts is more than just a street fair.  This event rolls art, music, beer, spirits, good food and carefully curated entertainment all in one.  It’s free. It’s fun and it’s in San Diego’s best urban neighborhood.
