From the Beer Writer: From placing local craft on tap before most higher-end lodgings, to putting on an art show with The Lost Abbey‘s label artist, to holding a West Coast IPA competition on its rooftop bar, downtown’s Hotel Solamar has long supported San Diego breweries. Now it’s gone beyond simply carrying local beer, securing 32 North Brewing to create a year-round signature offering to put on tap at its venues, Upper East Bar and Jsix, while upping its rooms’ mini-bar game in canned form. That proprietary brew is Considerate Gentleman, an American adjunct lager made with rice. Light-bodied and low-cal (two things that have become en vogue of late), it meets the “pool-pounding” descriptor the hotel laid out. And 32 North wasn’t the only brewery considered for the job. The Miramar-based interest had to go up against dozens of other local operations in a blind-tasting session that led to its eventual selection. Rightfully, the brewery’s branding shows up on the labels, giving credit where credit is due.
From the Brewer: “This collaboration was born out of our desire to provide the best craft beer available to people visiting San Diego. Hotel Solamar has tourists from all over the world, with many coming specifically to sample what San Diego breweries have to offer, and we’re thrilled to be a part of those guests’ experience. Through conversations and tastings with the management team at Hotel Solamar, we decided that a classic American lager was the best way to intro their guests to the expansive world of San Diego craft beer, hoping to get them visiting the many breweries surrounding downtown San Diego. This lager is a crisp, refreshing, non-dry-hopped beer that is reminiscent of the lagers that many Americans are familiar with. It weighs in at 100 calories so it can work for any guest. We’re thrilled with this collaboration and looking forward to being a small part of spreading the San Diego beer gospel to the hotel’s guests as well as thousands of others coming to our beautiful city.”—Collier Turley, Head Brewer, 32 North Brewing
