Rumors of Thorn Brewing sale erroneous

Barrio Logan-based brewery not acquired by San Diego Cannabis

March 14, 2019 By Brandon Hernández

Yesterday, a press release errantly communicated that Thorn Brewing, a local brewery with locations in Barrio Logan and North Park, had been acquired by California-based seed-to-consumer medicinal and recreational cannabis company, Next Green Wave Holdings. That release told of Next Green Wave’s acquisition of San Diego Cannabis, a local cannabinoid extraction and cannabis product manufacturing company, for $27 million. In doing so, it conveyed the falsehood that it now owned Thorn Brewing.

In truth, there was a misinterpretation of a list of assets submitted by SDC to Next Green Wave. That list included water-soluble THC drops that Thorn Brewing owner Dennis O’Connor licensed to SDC several weeks ago. That licensing was misinterpreted as being between SDC and the company versus O’Connor.

Thorn Brewing made light of the error via its Instagram feed, putting up a post that read: “If everything you read today on the Internet were true, which of these cans do you prefer? Swipe right…” Following those instructions displayed the imagery sent out with the Next Green Wave press release showing a collage of brands acquired via the SDC sale.
