San Diego’s overall beer scene is strong not only due to the amount of breweries within county lines, but also because of those we attract to pour their products here. Below are a few upcoming events that feature breweries from the East Coast.
New York-based magazine Hop Culture is teaming up with Oceanside-based Horus Aged Ales for “The Horus HOOTenanny” this Saturday at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. East Coasters are arriving from Connecticut (Kent Falls Brewing Company), Florida (3 Sons Brewing Company, Angry Chair Brewing, Civil Society Brewing Co., Cycle Brewing, J. Wakefield Brewing, and Unseen Creatures Brewing & Blending), Georgia (Wrecking Bar Brewpub), Maine (Barreled Souls Brewing and Bissell Brothers Brewing), Massachusetts (Trillium Brewing Company), New Jersey (Kane Brewing and Magnify Brewing Company), New York (Equilibrium Brewery, Finback Brewery, Interboro Spirits and Ales, and Other Half Brewing Company), North Carolina (Casita Cerveceria), Pennsylvania (Dancing Gnome Beer, Forest & Main Brewing Co. and Voodoo Brewery), Vermont (Foam Brewers), and Virginia (Aslin Beer Company, Ocelot Brewing Company, and Triple Crossing Beer). Next week, the founder and brewmaster of Brooklyn Brewery will celebrate entering the California beer market by traveling to events statewide, starting in San Diego. Steve Hindy and Garrett Oliver will be at Blind Lady Ale House in Normal Heights on Monday, January 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. At 6:30, they’ll speak to interested drinkers about the nation’s eleventh largest independent craft brewery. At 8:30, they’ll travel to Hamilton’s Tavern for another event, with keep-the-glass and refill specials, plus special food menu items. Brooklyn Brewery’s beers will reach all of Southern California through Stone Distributing.
Looking ahead, Modern Times Beer’s Carnival of Caffeination on February 16 will feature North Carolina’s Burial Beer Co; Pennsylvania’s Voodoo Brewery; New Jersey’s Kane Brewing Company; and Florida’s J. Wakefield, Cigar City Brewing, and Cycle Brewing. On the coffee side, Pure Intentions is flying in from Charlotte, North Carolina.
