In the beginning, there was SD Beer Talk Radio, a two-man operation with wired-in beer lover Brian Beagle. Late last year, a third personality was added to the podcast—adventurous drink enthusiast and events specialist Esthela Davila. Earlier this year, this duo went on hiatus, in the processing retiring the initial concept. What emerged post-break was a show with broader appeal and a new name: The Indie Beer Show.
Since launching their first episode in late September, Beagle and Davila have continued the practice of tasting local beers on-air while interviewing members of the brewing industry, fellow beer media, and individuals who simply enjoy drinking #SDBeer. And they’ve done it with a new, third co-host, David Martin. The digital media director for San Diego Magazine, he hails from Vermont and brings the added cool points of being in a band (Weight of the Sun).
A new name and a new team member is big doings for a podcast, but that’s not all that’s different. The show is now available via various new platforms. The full list now includes iTunes, Spotify, Overcast, Stitcher, Google Play, TuneIn, and Alexa.
The Indie Beer Show is recording live at numerous locations during San Diego Beer Week, including the official closing Beer Garden event at The Lodge at Torrey Pines on Sunday, November 11, but the trio will also be present, sans mics, at an event benefiting the YWCA. That charity soiree is a release party for Indie Homebauer Gold, a SMASH single malt and single hop beer brewed with Nelson Sauvin hops. It will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6 at the Home Brewing Company tasting room in North Park.
