As All Hallow’s Eve nears, our minds shift to frightening things…like having a calendar completely devoid of fun craft-beer events. EEK! Fortunately, we have the remedy for that. Check out these featured events, then check out our full event page.
October 6 | Sour Fest: In addition to padding its 50 taps with some of the best and rarest goses, lambics, and gueuzes around, this nine-years-strong annual event at Churchill’s Pub & Grille serves as a tribute to a very good friend of that establishment who dearly loved sour beer, enjoyed it with great gusto at this North County gem and, sadly, left this world far too early. | Churchill’s Pub & Grille, 887 West San Marcos Boulevard, San Marcos, 11 a.m.
October 10 | Veneration: The culinary team at Bagby Beer Co. is taking their next beer pairing dinner to trailblazing territory, serving up five courses of purely plant-based food including green papaya salad, ras el hanout pumpkin, and raspberry horchata, along with a quintet of the brewpub’s beers. | Bagby Beer Co., 601 South Coast Highway, Oceanside, 6 p.m.
October 13 | 12th Anniversary: Second Saturdays are a fixture at Hamilton’s Tavern, which, if you can believe it, is about to celebrate twelve years in business. To do so, they’re amping up their SS festivities for the month by bringing in not one, but two great breweries, Carlsbad’s Burgeon Beer Co. and out-of-town standouts Kern River Brewing. | Hamilton’s Tavern, 1521 30th Street, South Park, 5 p.m.
October 20 | Rancho BEERnardo Festival: Inland North County denizens have the folks from their hometown heroes at Urge Gastropub to thank for putting on the seventh edition of this rather exceptional outdoor beer festival. For the first time, this event will feature a one-hour VIP reception and go beyond IPAs to include quality beers of many styles. | Webb Park, 16826 Bernardo Center Drive, Rancho Bernardo, 2 p.m.
October | Beer to the Rescue Fundraisers: A year-long campaign benefiting the Lupus Foundation of Southern California continues with specialty beers at Rip Current Brewing’s North Park tasting room, a seasonal beer dinner at Council Brewing’s Kearny Mesa brewery, a night at White Labs’s Miramar sampling space, and a Halloween blow-out at 2kids Brewing. | October 3: Rip Current Brewing, 4101 30th Street, North Park; October 7: Council Brewing, 7705 Convoy Court, Kearny Mesa; October 16: White Labs, 9495 Candida Street, Miramar; October 31: 2kids Brewing, 8680 Miralani Drive, #123, Miramar; Times Vary
