While the beers of Ballast Point Brewing have been readily available across the country since its days as an independent operation, a key component of current parent company, Constellation Brands, is to construct venues throughout the nation where consumers can have authentic brand experiences and access its full range of products. In recent years, Ballast Point locations have been opened in Temecula, Virginia and Chicago, with another currently under construction at Anaheim’s Downtown Disney District. Late last week, Ballast Point announced its plans to open a brewery-equipped kitchen and tasting room in downtown San Francisco.
The project is strategically located at 705 16th Street in San Francisco’s Mission Bay area. It’s a high-profile spot a two-block walk from the site of the Golden State Warriors’ future home, the Chase Center, which is currently under construction and set to open in time for the 2019-2020 season. Ballast Point’s newest empire-expanding outpost will also be a short drive to or from the San Francisco Giants’ AT&T Park and coastal communities heavily traversed by tourists and residents alike. It’s the sort of high-cost, business-savvy move made possible by the resources of Constellation Brands.
The restaurant will be similar to existing Ballast Point properties, offering California fare, including Baja-style fish tacos. Line-caught fish, free-range chicken and hormone-free beef will be utilized, while numerous beer-infused condiments and accouterments will regularly make their way onto the seasonally-inspired menu. A three-barrel research-and-development brewing system will be used to brew beers ranging from core offerings to specialties only available at the San Francisco location. Ballast Point expects to open its Mission Bay tasting room and kitchen in early 2019.
