The last time we checked in on the left-hand suite at Carlsbad’s Brewery Igniter campus, it was being vacated by Wiseguy Brewing. That interest lasted less than a year, with its owners citing issues with high rent, low visibility, and lack of marketing support from leasing party, H.G. Fenton, as prime reasons for their cautious early exit. Today, that space will reopen with a new tenant, Papa Marce’s Cerveceria, the product of an owner and brewer who worked together at Vista’s Indian Joe Brewing, before moving on to realize the former’s vision.
Mark Amador handled sales for Indian Joe after many years spent serving other breweries in that capacity. Head brewer Grant Heuer has less years to his résumé, having only recently moved to San Diego after a pair of brewing stints in Murrieta and Las Vegas. Together, they are putting together a wide-ranging portfolio of beers. The following is the opening-day tap list:
- Papa Shaka Mexican-style Lager
- Loop de Lupe Hazy IPA
- Agave Caliente Imperial IPA
- Punky Brütster Brut IPA (collaboration with Thr3e Punk Ales Brewing)
- Sour Gose
- Límon Gose
- Imperial Red Sour Ale
Amador expects more beers to become available next week, including a West Coast IPA and some barrel-aged, fruited sour-ale variations. Papa Marce’s will be open Mondays and Tuesdays from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 9 p.m., Fridays from 3 to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 12 to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 7 p.m. The business is located at 5840 El Camino Real, Suite 100, directly next-door to fellow Brewery Igniter tenant Rouleur Brewing.
