The majority of local beer fans are familiar with Societe Brewing Company (8262 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, Kearny Mesa) and its four-branched family tree of beers. Those brews will soon be produced in greater quantity thanks to last week’s installation of two additional 80-barrel fermenters. Those vessels brought the company’s total tank count to ten and fermentation capacity to 520 barrels, up 44% from 360 barrels. A 40-barrel bright tank was also installed, which will be used exclusively for development of feral beer. Since Societe’s 2012 inception, fans have eagerly awaited the feral line of wild ales, and their packaged arrival would seem quite close thanks to the addition of a 12-head Criveller champagne bottle-filler with cork-and-cage capabilities.
But there’s more to Societe than beer. There’s a ridiculously spacious, well-appointed tasting room that’s ready to accept all comers. And, as I learned last year when the Societe team took my Beer to the Rescue anti-lupus campaign under its wing, each month the company selects a charity to hand over a percentage of proceeds from each Tuesday’s service to. Last month, the San Diego Blood Bank was a thankful recipient. February’s Charity of the Month is HandsOn San Diego, an organization focused on strengthening the community by providing volunteer opportunities.
The rest of Societe’s Charity of the Month partners has been worked out and is included below. You know, in case you needed another good excuse to down The Pupil (or The Apprentice—I’m not taking sides…#TeamPupil).
