Time flies when you’re brewing beer. Pizza Port’s Bressi Ranch bar, restaurant, and extensive brewing and packaging operation (2730 Gateway Road, Carlsbad) will celebrate its second year in business on June 28. To commemorate the occasion, the Bressi brew crew has worked up a special-release beer called 2-Step, an India pale ale (IPA) available along with a two-year anniversary t-shirt for $20 while supplies last.
But there’s more than a birthday taking place at Bressi. That facility is releasing two previously unpackaged beers in cans, starting June 18 with Kook Double IPA, a beer with beginnings at Pizza Port’s Bressi Ranch headquarters. Also available in aluminum starting July 9 will be Pick Six, a pilsner prominently featuring Del Mar Thoroughbred Club art on the can. That summer-ready brew will come out a week before the kickoff of the 2015 racing season.
And in one of the most wondered-about brewer transitions in some time, the head brewer spot vacated in May by Devon Randall at Pizza Port Solana Beach has been filled. As is custom at Pizza Port, ownership promoted from within the family, promoting former Pizza Port Carlsbad assistant brewer Adam Jester to take over its original location. One of Jester’s early creations is Simcoe City, a bright, assertive IPA that clearly communicates his love of the almighty hop and intention to brew many a hoppy beer at his newly inherited digs.
