Tom Nickel Running for Mayor of Julian

Technically, Tom Nickel of O’Brien’s Pub & Nickel Brewing Company is looking to become the Honorary Mayor of Julian, but we thought we’d share anyways, as he’s campaigning for a good cause: proceeds from the race will go towards the restoration of Julian Town Hall (you can help out Nickel & Julian here.)

Whoever raises the most before July 31 — Nickel is competing against Johnny Hake (Julian Cuyamaca Community Emergency Response Team – CERT/Teen CERT), Mike Hart (Julian News Publisher), and Charles Scott (The Candied Apple Pastry Company) — receives the title for one year.

This Thursday, O’Brien’s is hosting a Nickel Beer Night/Town Hall fundraising event, complete with a cask of Volcan IPA with Centennial hops, a cask of chocolate and vanilla bean Stonewall Stout, draft kegs of Weekender Wheat (a German-style hefe), Evacuation Pale (5.5% hoppy pale with Simcoe and Mosaic brewed the day of the Banner Fire when the Nickels had to evacuate their home), and a preview keg of 11.1% ABV Kupfernickel Barleywine from the Appleton 12-year rum barrel.
