- Culture Brewing Co.’s Matt Courtright commemorative barley wine, brewed with assistance of Stone brewers on their day off, will be released today at 5 p.m. The beer has been aging in red wine barrels infused with tart cherries for an ABV of 10.6%, and proceeds from sales will go to one of Courtright’s favorite non-profits, GoDesign.
- This weekend, two of San Diego’s newest breweries — Groundswell (Grantville) and Legacy (Oceanside) — will host grand opening celebrations.
- Julian’s Nickel Beer Company will open for the first time next Friday, November 29 at 11:30 a.m. with a pale ale, IPA and stout on tap.
- Green Flash is looking to open a new restaurant and tasting room in late 2014, with Eater San Diego reporting the facility will be south of their current Mira Mesa location.
- The former El Cajon Brewing Company is in the process of a rebirth, with Callaway Ryan selected as brewmaster for the upcoming URBN St. Brewing Co. according to San Diego Reader. Jakes Nunes and Alex Carballo, also former Stone employees, will act as general manager and kitchen manager respectively.
- More breweries are turning to Kickstarter to fund their business needs, and planned Council Brewing Co. is the latest. As of today, local homebrewers Curtis and Liz Chism have received $2,560 of their $25,000 goal, with 22 days to go.
- CraftBeer.com has again put together Thanksgiving beer pairing ideas, with Modern Times’ Jacob McKean speaking of his affinity for The Bruery’s Autumn Maple with roasted brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes and gravy, and homemade seitan.
- Sea Rocket Bistro will close its doors on Sunday, December 8 after 5 1/2 years in business, according to a recent blog post and press release. Business partners Dennis Stein and Elena Rivellino are selling their North Park space to a new restauranteur who will reopen in a few months.
