Welcome back to the second installation of our coverage of the URGE American Gastropub #BeerRun. (Here’s the first in case you missed it.) Today’s update from the road comes to you as we head into Denver from Kansas City. After Monday’s trip to Goose Island and Three Floyds, we carried on to St. Louis where we visited Perennial Artisan Ales and Schlafly Beer, picking up plenty of tasty treats along the way.
We then left STL to head to Kansas City for a peek at Boulevard Brewing, a stunningly beautiful destination. In the midst of all the fun we had in KC, we actually forgot to get any beer from them. (Yes, seriously.) But URGE owner Grant Tondro assures me that he’s looking to remedy that as soon as we get into Denver. We’d probably be there already had we not been pulled over for going a little over the speed limit. (Thank you friendly cop—who also happened to be a big Chargers fan—for letting us go with a polite verbal warning to keep it at 55 mph.)
On the docket for today is a breakfast stop at one of my favorite vegetarian restaurants, City O’ City, followed by a trip to nearby Argonaut Liquor to find some goodies for our own personal collections, then we’ll hit a few breweries around town before taking off to Vegas. After an inevitable stop there, we’ll be getting back to San Diego on Thursday to get ready for the grand tapping of some of our best souvenirs at URGE, starting Friday at 3 p.m.
Tomorrow’s update will include a more thorough look at the specific beers Grant’s bringing back, along with a look at his inspiration for the trip. San Diego Beer Week is almost here!
Disclosure: URGE is covering the cost of Randy Clemens’ plane ticket as well as some trip expenses in exchange for these words and pictures.
