No, it’s not what you’re thinking. Today, Stone Brewing Co. is releasing two versions of their imperial stout: 2013 Stone Imperial Russian Stout (10.6% ABV) and 2013 Stone ESPRESSO Imperial Russian Stout (11% ABV).
The latter is part of the brewery’s “Odd Beers for Odd Years” program that began in 2011, and uses a blend of Indonesian as well as Central and South American coffee beans from Ryan Bros. Coffee, the same local roaster that AleSmith sources from for its Speedway Stout. Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele adds the beans both in the brewhouse and post-fermentation.
On the website linked above, Steele gives tasting notes on both beers ahead of suggested pairings (appetizers, soups, entrees, cheeses, desserts and cigars) from Dr. Bill Sysak, Craft Beer Ambassador and Master Pairings expert.
