Today: National Beer Can Appreciation Day

Hey guys, look behind you! Rip Current Brewing, San Marcos.

On this day in 1935, cans of Krueger’s Finest Beer and Krueger’s Cream Ale made their debut in Richmond, Virginia. Hence, today is National Beer Can Appreciation Day.

Several San Diego breweries have plans to can their beer down the line, including Alpine, Ballast Point, Hess, Modern Times and Pizza Port. Monkey Paw did one run of canned beer through The Can Van last year, and have since bought their own canning line which isn’t up and running currently.

To get your fix, Californians Sierra Nevada, 21st Amendment and Golden Road sell canned beer, while other local favorites include Maui Brewing Company’s lineup and Colorado’s Avery, New Belgium and Oskar Blues breweries. Bars like The Tipsy Crow and Tin Can Alehouse have good canned beer selections if you’re looking to go out. Rip Current (pictured above) and Blind Lady Ale House both house fantastic displays of canned beer spanning decades.

According to a Hallmark Channel website, today is also National Compliment Day and National Eskimo Pie Patent Day. Tomorrow is National Opposite Day and National Irish Coffee Day. National Bald Eagle Appreciation Day on Saturday sounds pretty cool, too.
