It’s another big weekend in San Diego Beer…
Friday
– Swieners, Red Oven, The Sushi Bus, Casanova Fish Tacos and Kumpir, otherwise known as the “Fab 5 Foodie Group”, will join forces at the first Tent Takeover at 57 Degrees from 5 – 10 p.m. Admission and parking is free, with live music from the Ass Pocket Whiskey Fellas plus giveaways from 94/9. A special surprise keg has been promised.
– Lagunitas Brewing Co. owner Tony Magee will be strumming some acoustic blues down at The Waterfront Bar and Grill, starting around 4:20 p.m. Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale and Lagunitas IPA will be on tap.
– 30th on 30th is tonight, meaning many local bars and restaurants on 30th Street will offer food and drink specials. A special inclusion for this month’s event is an unofficial “soft tasting” of Thorn St. Brewery’s stout, pale ale and kolsch from 6 – 9 p.m. Growler fills will be available for the first time at what is San Diego’s 61st brewing company.
– A little further down 30th Street, Hamilton’s Tavern will tap dueling casks of Monkey Paw’s Ashes from the Grave Smoked Brown and Live Wire Caramel Coffee Milk Stout.
– Movember concludes at The High Dive with a Stache Reveal Fundraiser; a portion of beer sales will go towards supporting the fight against prostate cancer. If you can’t attend, you can help the crew raise more funds here.
– JC Hill and Cy Henley from Amplified Ale Works will be on the FM94/9 Rock & Roll Happy Hour tonight at 7 p.m. Their new beer, Pignose Pale Ale, was released on Tuesday.
Saturday
– North Park’s Toronado is one of just two bars in California to win the rights to host Zwanze Day Celebrations. What exactly is Zwanze Day? Craft Beer Tasters posted an informative article on the subject yesterday.
– The Blair Bars (Hamilton’s, Small Bar, Monkey Paw and Bar 11) will again be host to Santa’s Secret Stash, a huge collection of beers perfectly suited for a winter’s day. A bus will run between the four bars; view the very long list of beers here.
– The previously unannounced Track 13 from The Lost Abbey will go on sale at 10 a.m. 350 bottles are available to taste on-site only, plus a limited number of Ultimate Box Sets will be up for grabs. Find more links about the event here.
– Strong ales from The Beer Co., Green Flash, Iron Fist, Monkey Paw, The Lost Abbey, Port Brewing, Rough Draft and Stone Brewing Co. will be showcased at BeerNerdz’s 2nd Annual Strong Ale Tasting Challenge. This is a fun way to test your ability to pick out different local beers from a lineup.
Sunday
– The beer garden at the SONO Park Holiday Fest (32nd and Thorn Streets) will be graced by the presence of Ballast Point, Green Flash, Hess Brewing, Karl Strauss, Pizza Port, Rock Bottom, Stone Brewing Co. and Thorn St. Brewery. This is an all volunteer event with proceeds going to the McKinley Elementary art and music programs.
