Looks like things are moving along at Hess’ new North Park location. Mike Hess just fired over a press release in which he announces that Nate Sampson, former brewmaster for Rogue (!), is going to be the head brewer at the upcoming Grim St. brewery. It’s good to see Hess, a nanobrewery that will be 2 years old this month, attract such high-caliber talent. Read the full press release, below.
Hess Brewing Company is proud to announce Nate Sampson as Head Brewer of the brewery’s North Park expansion in mid-town San Diego. Nate comes to Hess Brewing following a distinguished 3-year tour as brewmaster for Rogue Ales at their public house in Eugene, Track Town Ales, where he was a multiple international award-winning brewer on their 7 barrel system.
Nate developed his skills as a homebrewer starting in the early 90s. In 2002, ten years later, he became a member of the Cascade Brewer’s Society and had the honor of serving as its president for five years from 2004 until 2009. A Texas A&M grad, Nate spent his years prior to Rogue working as a microbiologist & scientist for a large, global biotechnology company and the knowledge and expertise he gained there has been a huge asset to him as he became a brewmaster.
“We are thrilled to bring Nate to Hess,” said Mike Hess, CBO and Proprietor of Hess Brewing. “His brewing acumen, grounded in a biological background and fueled by passionate creativity will allow Hess to build beyond its strong foundation of flagship beers. We look forward to seeing (and tasting) some truly great craft beer, as Nate adds his particular skill and innovation to our new brewhouse. And that means more great beer to our fans. No exception. No excuses.”
