Kyle Brady is a Marine Corps veteran who now interns at On-The-Tracks Brewery in Carlsbad. He expressed interest in being interviewed for this web series, so here we are! Do you know someone in the local beer industry we should interview? Let me know via ryan@westcoastersd.com
What do you do with On-The-Tracks?
I am an intern at On-The-Tracks at the moment so I am lucky enough to experience a number of different aspects of the brewing industry. Being that we are such a small operation, I have had the opportunity to do everything from helping our head brewer Greg Davison brew, to even getting out and helping the guys with distribution.
What was your transition like from the Marine Corps to the brewing industry?
Having spent five years in the Marine Corps, the necessity to do something I was passionate about in life became extremely evident. I was only discharged six months ago, so this is my first job after the military. I have to say that I have really enjoyed the experience thus far and look forward to new experiences in the world of craft beer.
On-The-Tracks is expanding I hear?
With upgrades to our brewing equipment and fermentation system recently, we will be increasing our production four-fold in the coming weeks. We will be remaining in our same location in Carlsbad near the airport though.
Where can your beer be found on tap?
We have been on rotation at a number of beer bars around North County from Stone to Pizza Port in Carlsbad. We are in a number of different places from 150 Grand in Escondido to Pier View Pub in Oceanside.
You’re originally from Ohio. How’s the beer there?
Most of the state is still hooked on BMC, but Great Lakes Brewing in Cleveland really does some good beers. They helped open my eyes to the possibility of what beer could be with stuff like their seasonal Christmas Ale and Edmund Fitzgerald Porter years back. They don’t distribute this far, but if you get the chance to try anything of theirs, it’s worth a trade with someone back in the Midwest.
