Beer & Food Thurs & Fri

MEALS ON WHEELS — Sadly, Fuego One, Bar Eleven’s food truck, will be retired soon. But the truck isn’t going without a fight, or a party, we should say. Ballast Point/Home Brew Mart has invited “Craft Beer Bar Mogul” Scot Blair and Small Bar’s Manager Louis Mello (former owner of Liar’s Club) to bring the truck down to Linda Vista on Thursday night and redo a couple of dishes from the Liar’s Club, including “old time favorites” like the Fuego Steak Melt Sandwich, Seared Ahi Sandwich and Sweet Potato Fries. Next door Fiji Yogurt will be making a Mango, Lime and Tabasco Pepper Sorbet using the wort from the mashing process. The tap list looks great, too: “Black Marlin on Nitro (the way it was first made), Calico on Nitro (close to the original recipe), Sculpin on Cask (first cask ever was at Liar’s Club), Sour Wench Blackberry Ale (first time ever on tap was at Liar’s Club), Victory at Sea Coffee Vanilla Imperial Porter, Tongue Buckler Imperial Red, Dried Habanero Piper Down Scottish Ale, Serrano Pale Ale, Indra Kunindra India Curry Stout, Abandon Ship Smoked Lager, Oktoberfest Lager, Sextant Oatmeal Stout, Wahoo with Ginger, Lime, Szechuan Peppercorns and Long Peppers, Sculpin with Ginger, Lime, Szechuan Peppercorns and Long Peppers , Pale Ale, Calico Amber Ale, Big Eye IPA, Black Marlin Porter, Sculpin IPA and Wahoo Wheat.” Time: Thurs 4 – 7 p.m.; cost: beers $1, food varies in price; place: 5401 Linda Vista Rd # 406

BEER AND CHEESE, REDUX — On Friday night KnB Wine Cellar’s most popular SDBW event will be repeated from 6 – 10 p.m. “Beer & [GRILLED] Cheese Pairing w/ Karl Strauss” sold out in just 20 minutes last go round, and with such a great lineup yet again, the place will likely be packed. Here are those pairings, with cheese from local shop Venissimo: Windandsea Wheat Hefeweizen w/ Brie de Meaux, crisp apples and clove infused honey, Off the Rails Strong Ale w/ Lamb Chopper, ginger cranberry sauce, Heavy Petti Double IPA w/ Point Reyes Blue and mango chutney, Two Tortugas Belgian Quad w/ Bucherondin, drunken fig jam AND bacon jam. Time: 6 – 10 p.m.; cost: $15 for the “flight”; place: 6380 Del Cerro Blvd.
