10/20 Thursday, 11A-7P — Best Damn Brew Mart Grand Opening @ Best Damn Beer Shop / Super Jr. Market
The newest addition to the justly titled bottle shop is a home brew supply store in the heart of downtown San Diego. If you’re a homebrewer in the central San Diego area, you’ll now have a place to get your supplies along with bottled beer. Purchase $20 of homebrew merchandise and get 10% off at the bottle shop. Check it out for yourself @ 1036 7th Avenue, San Diego CA 92101 (located inside Super Jr. market). 10/20 Thursday, 7P — 3 Spiced Beers + 3 Small Plates @ Small Bar featuring Ballast Point
Ballast Point’s Specialty Brewer Colby Chandler has developed what he consideres the future of beer pairings. Three small tapas style plates will be paired with three spiced Ballast Point beers for $20. Wahoo Wheat spiced with lime, ginger, and Szechuan peppercorns will be paired with Szechuan Shrimp. Also featuring Habanero Piper Down Scottish Ale and Cocoa nib and Chipotle spiced Black Marlin Porter with Jamaican Jerk Lamb Lollipops and Mexican Mocha Cheesecake, respectively.
10/21 – 10/23 Friday (11A-Midnight), Saturday (11A-Midnight), Sunday (11A-9P) — Oktoberfest Festival Weekend @ Public House La Jolla
Every day this weekend, Public House in La Jolla will have an outdoor German beer festival featuring Hofbrau and Weinstephaner beers along with traditional german foods. There’s also a 1 liter stein glass giveaway.
10/21 Friday, 6P — Friday Night Flights @ 98 Bottles w/ Mission Brewery
New downtown craft beer spot, 98 Bottles, is beginning their Friday Night Flight series. Featured alongside Mission staples Blonde, Hefeweizen, and Shipwreck DIPA will be the just released Dark Seas Russian Imperial Stout and their new Coco Brown. Flight specials run all night, and with Bottlecraft just down the road – there’s now a neat little beer crawl in North Little Italy.
10/22 Saturday, 1130A – 6P — OktSoldierFest @ Mission Brewery
A charity beer festival with proceeds benefiting the Rick Roberts Warrior Foundation, there is a $45 VIP tasting sessions from 1130A-1P and a $35 general admission runs from 1P-6P. Mission has a unique spot in a sort of cul de sac that allows them to have one hell of a party. More info on the breweries, live music, and food can be found here.
10/23 Sunday, 7A – 12P — Advanced Brewing Class: Commerical Brewing Shadow @ Mother Earth Brew Co.
If you are curious to the brewing process and how a small commercial brew house functions, Mother Earth Brew Co. is allowing people to shadow their brew day beginning at 7AM this Sunday. This is a cool event because it will take the mystery out of the brewing process, while giving a taste of what to expect should you decide to open your own brewery. Attendance is free.
10/25 Tuesday, 6PM — FRESH Dinner @ Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves: “Join us as we celebrate the beauty and flavor of our local farms and show you just how tasty dinner can be when taken straight from the farm to the table. All of the evening’s fare is prepared from ingredients that are harvested by our own team of chefs that very morning!” Stone’s Fresh Dinners are definitely a unique experience; I was lucky enough to have gone to one last spring, and it did not disappoint. 10/26 Wednesday, 6:30PM — Karl Strauss Beer Dinner @ The Lodge at Torrey Pines
4 five-star courses prepared by Chef Kyle Bergman will be paired with beers from one of SD’s legendary breweries. Cost: $55, reservations: 858-777-6645. Reception: Melon Jicama with Grilled Prawn, Paired with Windansea Wheat Hefeweizen; Seared Day Boat Scallops with Roasted Endive, Sauce Gribiche, Paired with Big Barrel Double IPA; Roasted Apple Soup with “Grilled Cheese”, Smoked Salmon, Paired with Manzanita Lazy Saison; Whole Roasted New York Strip with Confit Potatoes, Fennel, Sauce Bordelaise, Paired with Full Suit Belgian-Style Brown Ale; Dessert TBA.
