The Friday Five: 5Q with Sid Mikhail

October 14, 2011 By Ryan Lamb

Today’s five questions are with Sid Mikhail of Best Damn Beer Shop and the soon-to-open Best Damn Brew Mart, which are both located inside Super Jr. Market in downtown San Diego. Sid is also throwing a “Best Damn Sour Fest” next Saturday night at Bootlegger’s downtown that’ll feature “traditional Flemish Sours, Guezes, Fruit Blended Lambics, American Wild Ales & a few special collaborative brews of tart character.” To see the beer list or buy tickets, click here.

When do you expect to open Best Damn Brew Mart?
We want to have a soft opening mid-October and then the grand opening during Beer Week.

How many types of grain will you have?
54, with lots of specialties.

Hops?
The list keeps growing; we’ll have the ones you see everywhere and well as unique varieties like those from Rogue’s hop farms.

Who will be managing the mart?
Damian Binder, a 20-year homebrewer who’ll be able to answer questions from beginner to advanced.

For your sour festival next weekend, you’ve promised a “secret keg that will be epic.” Can you give us any clues?
It’s sour…and, it’s fermented. You’ll have to be there to find out.
