Are you surprised? Pizza Port Carlsbad took home 6 individual medals (3 Golds and 3 Silvers) this past weekend at the thirtieth rendition of the Great American Beer Festival. They also won the Large Brewpub and Large Brewpub Brewer of the Year award for the third year running. Head brewer for Pizza Port Carlsbad, Jeff Bagby, also won the “Alpha King Challenge” hosted at Denver’s Falling Rock Taphouse the day before the GABF awards ceremony; it was the second year in a row he and brewer Ignacio “Nacho” Cervantes’ Poor Man’s IPA took the plaudits in this contest pitting the most bitter yet balanced beers against each other.
With 40 taps and 2 casks, you’ll always be able to find something you like at Pizza Port Carlsbad; see the live web cam of their tap list here. Looks like medal winners Great American Brown (Gold – American-Style Brown Ale Category), Relevations (Silver – Belgian-Style Strong Specialty Ale Category), and Twerp (Silver – Session Beer Category) are currently on. Hop on the coaster up to Carlsbad, sit at the bar and gaze at the 15-barrel brewhouse that makes it all happen. Also look out for a new batch of Hakuna Ma Ta Tas, a pink beer brewed occasionally to benefit breast cancer research via the Keep A Breast Foundation, that will be going on tap in the next few weeks.
