With five events on one day, Saturday is easily the biggest day in the San Diego Beer world. The only downside is that you will need to make some choices. Aside from that, there’s much to do in the next week if you are thirsty. Again, this is only a mention of a few craft beer happenings. If you want to see all events in the next seven days please look at our event calendar.
9/21 4th Anniversary DrinkAbout!
If you haven’t figured out what DrinkAbout! is, tonight’s your chance. This is the best way to visit many excellent craft beer spots without getting arrested. Hop on the bus, check out places like Blind Lady Ale House, Live Wire, Small Bar, Hamiltons, etc all in one night. Route is here and the bus starts at 7PM and runs until 11PM. GET ON THE BUS.
9/21 Wednesday, 6:30PM Coronado Beer Pairing Dinner at Leroy’s Kitchen + Lounge
In order to kick-off their first beer pairing, Leroy’s Kitchen + Lounge will be collaborating with Coronado Brewing Co. 9/22 Thursday, 4:00PM “Behind the Brewery” with MIHO Gastrotruck and Fiji Yogurt at Ballast Point’s Home Brew Mart
Do you want to eat MIHO’s food alongside drinking Ballast Point’s best beer? MIHO, and Fiji Yogurt are teaming up once more to execute another rendition of a killer casual food and beer pairing. To help with the “good mojo to our 2011 entries” in GABF, Ballast Point will be serving several GABF and World Beer Cup award-winners such as Dorado DIPA, Fathom IPL, and Barrel Aged Piper Down Scottish Ale. The draft list for this event is fearsome. If you get there early enough, you’ll get to enjoy Ballast Point beer while sitting on a bench seat located inside Ballast Point R&D (aka Home Brew Mart). More information can be found here.
SATURDAY ROUNDUP
ALL OF THESE EVENTS ARE ON 9/24

12P – 4P @ Liberty Station – San Diego County Beer Fair – With the failure of AFBF and the same-day Adams Avenue Beer Taste, this little festival has been fighting an uphill battle. Right after AFBF failed, I sent Tyson Crawford, the organizer, an email. In that email, I asked: Why should I go to your beer festival? His response: “My festival is going to be about BEER!” He continues, ” This is a rain or shine event that will have a heavy focus on beer education. This event is [also] a fundraiser for http://www.sdcoastkeeper.org/ and www.pintsforprostates.org/” With a respectable brewery roster, a Meet-the-Brewer element at the beginning of the event, and 12 4oz tasters per admittance, we’re trusting Tyson to come through with a great festival. If you’re looking for something fresh in the land of beer festivals, check this event out. More info + tickets here.
12P-5P @ KnB Wine Cellars – KnB BeerBQ w/ Rogue – KnB does NOT screw around when they throw events. With 40 Rogue beers on tap, there’s also going to be awesome food. If you don’t feel like a beer festival, this is a relaxing option. To see the beer list and more info, click here.
12P-6P @ Adams Avenue Street Fair – Adams Avenue Beer Taste – Adam’s Avenue Street Fair (AASF) has held a beer garden of sorts in recent years. This year, however, Kevin Hellman (publisher of CityBeat) has stepped in to ramp up the beer element of AASF. It’s billed Adams Avenue Beer Taste in recent CityBeat issues, but I also see that it’s called the Adam’s Avenue Beer Tasting and there’s only a mention of a beer garden on the Adams Avenue Business Association’s website (the local B.I.D. putting on that). We’re not too curious though. Kevin knows what he’s doing, which is to say that this will be a proper little beer festival. It’s also a hell of a deal at $20. More information can be found here.

9/25 Sunday, 5PM AleSmith Beer Dinner @ La Valencia Hotel
Oktoberfest themed beer pairing dinner. 5 courses of food paired with 5 AleSmith beers. While we have yet to check out La Valencia’s recent beer program, we want to. La Valencia is old school La Jolla class, so we know it’s going to be good. Reservations required. To see the menu and more information, click here (.PDF file)
9/27 Tuesday, 5P Quingenti Millilitre Release and Book Signing @ Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens
Stone will be offering a bottle of their new Quingenti Millilitre with each purchase of their new book. In fact, there’s no other way to get the beer. Brilliant and just slightly evil, we’re confident both the book and the beer will be Stone-caliber work. This Tuesday, meet the author Randy Clemens along with Stone founders Greg Koch and Steve Wagner. The book looks like it is retailing for $15 and with the purchase of the book you can buy the beer for $25.
9/27 Wednesday, 5P -9P Wall Street Breakdown @ Karl Strauss La Jolla
Karl Strauss is celebrating the grand reopening of Karl La Jolla with a food and beer pairing event. Designed to show off the new rennovation, there will be 12 beers paired with around 20 small plates of food. The debut of Tower 20 IIPA will happen at this event, as well. Buy tickets online here.
9/28 Wednesday, 8P Beer & Cheese Pairing @ The Tipsy Crow
$30 gets you entrance to the swanky top floor of the Tipsy Crow for a Beer Tasting organized by Sid of Best Damn Beer Shop and Jay of the Tipsy Crow. Capped at 35 tickets, this tiny event is the date night solution for Wednesday the 28th. Cheese by Venissimo.
