Welcome to the second installment of The Friday Five. Last week, we interviewed Melani Gordon of TapHunter.com and this week, her husband, Jeff Gordon. Yes, two Gordons in two weeks.
So Jeff, you’re working on the new San Diego Beer Week and San Diego Brewers Guild websites. Tell us about your priorities with those?
We wanted to make sure we were meeting the goals of the guild with all the changes and enhancements we’ve been making. For Beer Week, the ability to see events by part of town and by type of event means it will better meet everyone’s needs.
Any Beer Week events you’re already looking forward to?
The closing event for the last two years has always been fun. We’ve had great weather and it’s a smaller event, which keeps it intimate.
You’re throwing the exclusive after parties for GABF. Tell us about that.
It’s a long three days, so we wanted to do something fun. When everyone gets out at 10, there are a few events going on around town, but no lead for the after parties. So we thought that’d be a fun thing to do. We’ll also get the chance to meet some of our fans that aren’t from San Diego.
GABF competition predictions? A dark horse?
I don’t think you can go wrong to say that Pizza Port will take home some medals. As for a dark horse? I don’t know if Alpine is sending any IPAs, but I’d really like to see them take an IPA category. That’s what they’re known for here in San Diego and around the world too.
Are you full-time at TapHunter now?
I will be in November, just in time for Beer Week. I’ve been at my job for 12 years, and this is something I really want to do. Melani and I are dedicated to making this work, and the timing couldn’t correspond better than to be with beer week.
